Updating card firmware for your Encrypted Wavelength service

For security, you should periodically request firmware updates for the network cards associated with your Encrypted Wavelength service. When you request a firmware update, CenturyLink schedules it within a maintenance window to minimize the impact to your service.

Based on when your circuit was installed, your cards will have a slightly different process for updating firmware:

  • If your service was installed before December 1, 2019, use the first set of instructions.

  • If your service was installed after December 1, 2019, scroll down and use the second set of instructions.

Circuits installed before 10/1/19

To update card firmware for your Encrypted Wavelength service:

  1. From the main menu, click Service Inventory.

    MyLevel3 displays a list of your services.
  1. Search for the Encrypted Wavelength service you want to work with. (In the Products column, look for Wavelength—Encrypted.) When you find it, click the blue service ID link for the service.

  1. Click Encryption Management.

    MyLevel3 displays information for the Encrypted Wavelength service such as the location of the two cards, bandwidth for the service, and whether the service is protected or unprotected.

    • If the service is unprotected, you see one path: Work.

    • If the service is protected, you'll see two paths: Work and Protect.
  1. Click the Firmware Update Request tab.
  1. Type the passwords for both cards.
Important: Make sure you type the correct password for both cards. If you type the wrong password for one of the cards, the authentication key updates only on one card and prevents the cards from negotiating a new session key.
  1. In the Approved Update Firmware version field, type the firmware version you authorize CenturyLink to update your cards to, select the Update Approved checkbox, then click Submit.

    CenturyLink schedules the firmware update within a maintenance window to minimize the impact to your service.

Circuits installed after 10/1/19

To update card firmware for your Encrypted Wavelength service:

  1. From the main menu, click Service Inventory.

    MyLevel3 displays a list of your services.
  1. Search for the Encrypted Wavelength service you want to work with. (In the Products column, look for Wavelength—Encrypted.) When you find it, click the blue service ID link for the service.

  1. Click Encryption Management.

    MyLevel3 displays information for the Encrypted Wavelength service such as the location of the two cards, bandwidth for the service, and whether the service is protected or unprotected.

    • If the service is unprotected, you see one path: Work.

    • If the service is protected, you'll see two paths: Work and Protect.
  1. Click the Firmware Update Request tab.
  1. Type the password for the first card, type the firmware version you authorize CenturyLink to update your cards to, click the Update Approved checkbox, then click Submit.

  2. Repeat step 6 for the second card.

    CenturyLink schedules the firmware update within a maintenance window to minimize the impact to your service.
